The AKC Canine Good Citizen® Program is rapidly becoming recognized as the standard of behavior for dogs in our communities. Canine Good Citizen resolutions have been passed by 18 state legislatures and the United States Senate. Many insurance companies, including Nationwide, are using Canine Good Citizen (CGC) to insure breeds they would not otherwise insure.
CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program stresses responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. Dogs who pass the 10-step test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Nationwide Offers Help to Homeowners
Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is making an effort to give previously ineligible breeds the benefit of the doubt. Nationwide will now issue homeowners insurance to owners of the breeds on their previously "Ineligible List" IF the dog passes the Canine Good Citizen test.
The AKC Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) is not a temperment test nor does it determine if your dog is dangerous. The CGC test includes basic obedience and allows owners to demonstrate control over their dog.
If you have been referred to me and your Nationwide Homeowners policy is up for renewal and have been referred to me because you have a breed on the "Ineligible List" (below) you can now avoid nonrenewal by having your dog pass the Canine Good Citizen test. I can help you.
If you have applied for homeowners insurance through Nationwide Mutual Insurance and have been referred to me because your dog is on the "Ineligible List" (below), you may be accepted by Nationwide if your dog passes the Canine Good Citizen test. I can help you. Contact Debbie Duttenhofer, AKC CGC Evaluator
